Buying unique and affordable art these days is easy thanks to the web. I’m currently in the process of getting a nursery together for my baby due this Fall and I’ve found it’s easy to surf around online and find artwork for the nursery that’s not screaming cheesy commercial cartoon characters. I bought this Rabbit and Flora wood gocco print recently ($28 unframed/ $48 framed) from Petit Collage. You can also surf around Etsy.com using special keywords such as “art” or “prints” to find just what pleases you and your room.

As the consummate renter, my design choices were always marked with indecision. In fact, I’ve often claimed to be a minimalist just to explain my terribly blank walls. I rationalized my way out of wall art purchases since it seemed as though the hassle of repainting and filling in holes outweighed the value of anything that I would buy.

Now that we’re homeowners, we have no excuse for our bare walls except for the fact we fight over every purchase. That was until I introduced my husband Blik, and all of a sudden, we actually looked like decorating pros. So far we’ve covered our son’s wall in animals, and our living room wall in dandelions. Granted, we still had to decide exactly where to put them. But, thankfully, they’re not permanent, so we can easily move them around the room or in another one entirely depending on our whim or mood.

Now if only everything in life was like that.

I ordered these from the cakehouse etsy shop last week, and when they came in the mail and I opened the package I squealed. There was actual squealing. And when Jon saw them he agreed that I was not overreacting.

I can’t help but get obsessed with throw pillows! I always seem to be on the look out the next one to be added to my collection. Pillows are the perfect way to transform a new look to your pad by adding a fresh elements or splash of color to a chair, couch, or bed. And these days there’s nothing like handmade — an applique deer here, an embroidered flower there. I love the variety and whimsical, fresh prints that can be mixed and matched together to make your living quarters your own.

I bought this print from an illustrator named Kate Wilson, and although her etsy shop is empty right now it’s definitely one to keep an eye on. Also, her portfolio is filled with an amazing set of work. This along with a couple other bird prints will be going up in the guest bedroom once we stop using that room as a storage space. Time to remove all the dead bodies.
